The New Girl

Image
The death of the beloved Ruth Bader Ginsburg left a seat open in the Supreme Court and the Trump administration surely took the opportunity to appoint. Amy Vivian Coney Barrett is only the 5th woman to be conferred to the Supreme Court and the pressure is evident.  At the hearings that would determine weather or not Barrett would sit in the coveted Supreme Court chair, she was asked to name the 5 freedoms protected in the 1st Amendment. Barrett struggled to do so an the media has not been kind. Many articles have called Barrett's hearings a joke, given that immigrants may of who have not been given education in the United States are mandated to study a and restate a civics test that often includes what Barrett struggled to say.  For women, the now confirmed justice has a huge place to fill and the coverage of her has not been the best. In other regards Justice Barrett is almost the politic polar opposite of RBG. It will be very interesting to see how she shakes this stat...

The Trailblazing Judge

On September 18th, of 2020 the United States lost one of the most influential female supreme court justices. RBG was appointed in 1993 by president Clinton, and at the time she was a phenomenal lawyer which much of the world would some seen. Of course, as a women in the media, RBG faced push back and at time was undermined. But, people did not know that she would come to be one of the most important supreme court justices for many of the topics that support the democratic party.  RBG has had ground breaking rulings in Obamacare and same-sex marriages. The loss of RBG will with no doubt effect the nation. As all look to president Trump to appoint his choice, there is quite the space to be filled. If the space is filled with a woman, the pressure for her to preform will be great considering the mark that RBG left.  https://www.biography.com/law-figure/ruth-bader-ginsburg https://time.com/5481422/rbg-movie-male-plaintiff-history/

The Candidate

A woman that the media has not been so kind to over the past decade has been none other than Hilary Clinton. The former Secretary of State has been in the media for everything from staying with her husband after cheating allegations to the use of private serves for government emails. In 2016 Clinton made a run for the United State Presidency and in my opinion, we saw one of the ugliest media coverages of a women in politics. The coverage of Hilary Clinton is not about likeability, in many headlines we see questions like ''Why Do So Many Americans Hate Hilary Clinton''.  The American people do not trust Clinton and terms like ''Crooked Hilary'', coined by former President Trump have played immensely into the way people voted in the 2016 election. In many news reports, we find that Clinton has been the talk of degrading media since Bill Clinton's election as governor of Arkansas. She has been scrutinized for keeping her last name to the events of Ben...

Madam First Lady

Image
The role of the first lady has become more and more public since the arrival of none other than Jackie Kennedy. Since her time, we have seen first ladies make their own way by creating staple fashion statements to reform school lunch systems. Now, we look to our newest addition to a long line of regal women, Dr. Jill Biden. Many people see the first lady as just ''the president's wife'', but over time we have seen how powerful women like Michelle Obama have also left their mark on their husband's presidency. Dr. Biden is no stranger to the media and the First Lady seems to be finding her own way in the media as she visits the Navajo Nation.   Dr. Biden gave a speech that expressed to the people of the Navajo Nation the plans of president Biden to build up the people. As we all know the United States does not have the best history with the Native Americans. Dr. Biden's involvement with the people of the Navajo nation shows a public consideration that we hav...

The Next Georgian

One of the most influential women in the state of Georgia over the past few years has become Stacey Abrams. The Yale and Spelman graduate has had quite the career, but maybe the first time she stepped into the national spotlight was during her 2018 run for the Georgia governor position. Abrams who lost her election was scrutinized greatly for not immediately giving up the election to Governor Kemp. Although her image and perception in the media took a hit, it seems that the Abrams that we saw helping in the 2020 senate runoff election was not too faced by her loss. Many people are attesting the win of congressmen Ossoff and Warnock to the efforts of Abrams.  As we are gearing up for a 2022 governor's election in Georgia, media is shifting to Abrams. Her efforts not onl...

The Power

Aside for the now Vice President Kamala Harris, the arguably most powerful women in politics is none other than Nancy Pelosi. The only female Speaker of the House is no stranger to the effects of the media and many people have even come to a point where they want her reign to end. Pelosi has been a firecracker in the House and maybe one of her most notable moment was ripping up the State of The Union address by former President Trump. Pelosi's actions are not without scrutiny and in politics it seems that an attack on one women in the questioning of all women. Pelosi's favorability in the media has dropped considerably since she assumed the Speaker of the House position. Her her most recent re-election, the speaker even lost about three democratic votes. Pelosi has spear-headed the passage of many major acts of legislation including the repeal of Don't ask, Don't tell, economic stimulus bills, Obamacare, and so much more. For Pelosi, it seems that the accomplishments wi...

AOC: The Fresh Faced Woman

Image
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been the talk of female politics since 2018 when she beat out Joe Crowley, a powerful 10-term incumbent for the the seat at New York's 14th congressional district. AOC, as she is widely known, has found quite the presence in the media as she is a women who does not stand for many of the injustices that women before her have faced. The Congresswomen has spoken out blatantly against Republican lawmakers who have used very sexist terms to describe her. Newspapers like the New York Times have praised AOC for standing her ground and overall the coverage of the young congresswomen has brought a new fire to the House floor. AOC who was raised in the Bronx, NY has become a representation of what a hardworking women can accomplish in the United States. Although the AOC's media coverage has not always been so kind, Vanity Fair recants an incident in which a Maryland man was arrested after plotting to AOC among other female democrats. The spotlight surely co...
